Making of Cricket Bats

a talk by John Surridge

John Surridge, is a local man, brought up in a cricketing family whose members have not only played cricket at county level but started making bats about 100 years ago as Stuart Surridge & Co Ltd. John was production director of the company from the age of 28 and he learnt his trade from his father and from David Luker who lived in the village and worked for the company for as long as John can remember as a tree feller and sawyer.

Although no longer make bats they do produce the clefts which are sold to bat makers both here and abroad.
