Alan Turton will be our speaker on “The Sieges of Basing House”
Alan is a military historian, who specialises in the English Civil War and the period up to the mid-18th century. From 1987-2011 he was the curator of the English Civil War site of Basing House (once the largest private house in Tudor England), which underwent the longest siege of the English Civil War.

A talk about the Swing Riots by Dr David Peacock, who has promised us a connection to The Hinds Head in Aldermaston

The Swing Riots were a widespread uprising in 1830 by agricultural workers in southern and eastern England in protest of agricultural mechanisation and harsh working conditions.
Previously Dr David Peacock gave the History group a talk on Padworth House and then subsequently lead a party of members in a tour of the house.
A.E.I. bought Aldermaston Court after WWII and there developed the first private nuclear reactor.
